Intermediate Curriculum in Classical Music Composition: study and practice

Program description

PROGRAM GOAL

My program is designed to nurture and expand the music and creative potential of gifted children. I focus on identifying each child’s unique strengths and abilities, fostering artistic thinking, creative independence, and a deep, lasting motivation for musical growth.
Through a structured yet inspiring learning environment, students are guided to develop confidence in their creativity, refine their musical language, and discover their individual artistic voice.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

This program expands students’ musical horizons while nurturing creativity. Students gain practical experience in composition and improvisation, and develop skills to analyze and understand musical works, building both confidence and musical insight.

LESSON STRUCTURE

Students take individual lessons once a week, each lasting 60 minutes. The program runs for a full academic year, with a total of 40 lessons – 20 in the first semester and 20 in the second – providing consistent, personalized guidance for each student’s musical growth.

LEARNING PROGRESSION

The program follows a gradual progression form simple to complex musical forms. Students begin by composing short, self-contained ideas and phrases, then advance to small compositions in period or simple multi-part forms. By the end of the course, they are proficient in studied forms, contemporary musical expression, and a range of compositional styles and techniques.

APPRENTICESHIP AND MUSICAL ANALYSIS

Students study works by Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary composers, learning through imitation and analysis. At the same time, they develop careful notation skills, paying attention to tempo, dynamics, articulation, and other musical details – essential for precise work with musical material.
