Life in Canada

My life in Canada
2022 - today

My Canadian chapter began in 2022. Since moving to Canada, Ontario PV, I have continued to grow and develop as both a teacher and a composer.

Teaching Experience in Canada

I continued my teaching career in collaboration with various music schools, working as a piano teacher, vocal teacher, and music teacher for group classes for preschoolers. I also actively began preparing students for RCM piano exams at all levels. Additionally, I successfully launched my private teaching practice, and in the summer of 2024, the first concert of my private music studio, Nadya Poklad Music Academy, was successfully held, featuring about 20 of my private piano and vocal students. I would like to highlight that my professional collaboration with Merriam School of Music and Suesings Music Services plays a significant role in my teaching career in Canada.

Active Composer

Despite facing numerous obstacles, my music was chosen to be part of the Oakville Symphony Orchestra’s repertoire for the 2023-2024 concert season. This was a creative contract for the season, with the details of the collaboration discussed with Lorenzo Guggenheim, the Music Director and Conductor. In the summer of 2023, I worked on a new composition for symphony orchestra, and on February 10-11, 2024, the World premiere of my work Imagination took place, marking a significant milestone in my journey.

In August of the same year, my composition was featured in the program for the Candlelight Evening Concerts in Oakville, Ontario. It was beautifully performed by the Oakville Symphony under the baton of conductor and musical director, Lorenzo Guggenheim.

In addition to this orchestral achievement, my piano composition Bells Under Water caught the attention of Canadian-Ukrainian pianist and teacher, Maria Dolnycky, who discovered my work on YouTube. She reached out to me, and on February 23, 2024, during the chamber music concert The Undefeated in Toronto, Maria gave the Canadian premiere of “Bells Under Water”. This marked another important step in sharing my music with a wider audience.

In 2023, I began a creative collaboration with Bandura player Tetiana Cherneta, to whom I dedicated my composition “Three emotional shades” for solo Bandura. During the chamber music concert of Ukrainian Composers in Oakville, Tetiana gave the World Premiere of “The legend” for Bandura solo.

In 2023, five of my compositions for woodwind instruments (clarinet, oboe, and bassoon) were selected for dissertation research by a doctoral student at the University of Toronto.

In 2025, in the city of Etobicoke the premier of the piece “Spring Poem” for violine and piano took place, performed by the outstanding virtuoso musicians Anton Yeretsky and Maria Dolnycky.

Active organizer of concerts

On March 23, 2024, I organized the Chamber Music Concert of Ukrainian Composers, “On the Waves of Spring”, held in Oakville, Ontario. The concert featured works of chamber vocal and instrumental music by Ukrainian composers, with a performance by 10 professional musicians from various cities across Ontario. The program lasted for 1 hour and 15 minutes, offering a rich experience of Ukrainian musical heritage.
